Systematic science-based education enhances understanding and helps to mitigate the impact of the climate crisis by empowering people with knowledge, skills, values and attitudes. This is necessary if citizens are to be active participants in the changes necessary to reduce the negative consequences of climate change.
We have created a climate education programme that consists of two stages. In the first we focus on climate-related professional knowledge. In the second we focus on how to bring the knowledge to students studying at different educational levels and institutions.
The first stage of climate education program training took place in March 2023 after which the e-learning tool “ABC of Climate Change” was ready for independent study. This can be found at kliimatarkused.ut.ee
The second phase of training will take place from 26.02.2024 – 08.04.2024. The training is intended for teachers at all levels of general education, as well as preschool teachers and teachers working in informal education. Teachers in environmental education centres are also included. During the training, the climate education teaching materials will be introduced to students and teachers along with methodological instructions for the best use of the materials.
The training will take place in Tartu, Tallinn, Pärnu and Rakvere. The exact training times will be revealed in December 2023. Information about the training will be added here as well as on the project’s FB page.
